General Information

This is the commonest moth in the genus Argyresthia. It has a characteristic Y-shape golden fascia.

 

There are several named forms:-

  • f. literella - less distinct markings
  • f. splendida - a single brassy colour.


The adults fly both at night and on sunny afternoons.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Flies during the day

Wingspan: 10-12mm
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.), Alder (Alnus glutinosa)
Flying: One generation, July-September
UK Presence: Resident
