General Information

This is one of several similar, orange-coloured species which emerge during the autumn.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 14-19mm.
Foodplant(s): Wych Elm (Ulmus glabra), Aspen (Populus tremula), poplars (Populus spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), Ash (Fraxinus excelsior)
Flying: One generation, September-early December
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Broadleaved woodland, scrub, parkland and gardens.
