General Information
The vernacular name of this species comes from the small 'satellites' either side of the stigma. The stigma vary in colour from white to orange and can be obscure, especially in worn individuals.

Pupates in loose soil.
Overwinters as Overwinters as an adult.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 17-20mm.
Foodplant(s): oaks (Quercus spp.), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Hazel (Corylus avellana), Field Maple (Acer campestre), elms (Ulmus spp.), broadleaved trees, broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, late September-April (hibernates)
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Broadleaved woodland, scrub, heathland and gardens.
