Caterpillars have hairs that cause extreme irritation if in contact with human skin.

Pupates in leaf litter.
Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: M 16-20mm. F 18-19mm.
Foodplant(s): Bramble (Rubus fruticosus), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Dog-rose (Rosa canina), sallows (Salix spp.), plums (Prunus spp.), Apple (Malus domestica), pears (Pyrus spp.), cherries (Prunus spp.)
Flying: One/two generations, July-August and October

Coastal scrub, hedgerows, parks and gardens.
