General Information

This moth is coarsely scaled with purplish forewings and an irregular yellowish fascia.

 

The larvae create a leaf mine which is variable in appearance and contains a highly contorted and parallel gallery often having a false blotch.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 4-6 mm.
Foodplant(s): Eared Willow (Salix aurita), Goat Willow (Salix caprea), Grey Willow (Salix cinerea)
Flying: Two generations, April-May and July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common
