General Information

This species has five rows of black dots on the forewing which make it one of the easier of the Yponomeuta species to identify.

 

The silken nests of the larvae can be found relatively easily, the larvae feeding gregariously and usually stripping the food plant bare.

Both sexes come to light.

Foodplant(s): Bird Cherry (Prunus padus), Wild Plum (Prunus americana), Dwarf Cherry (Prunus cerasus), Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia)
Flying: One generation, July-August
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, heathland, fens, gardens, scrub, coastal areas and grassland.
