General Information

This species has very variable colouring, with the relatively frequent, f. flavescens, having the darker markings almost absent.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 14-17mm.
Foodplant(s): sallows (Salix spp.), poplars (Populus spp.), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, September-October

Broadleaved woodland, carr, marshes, fens and heathland.
