General Information
This species is very similar to the Peacock Moth (M. notata).

Pupates just beneath the ground.
Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 13-15mm.
Foodplant(s): sallows (Salix spp.), willows (Salix spp.), Sea-buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), Alder (Alnus glutinosa)
Flying: Two generations, late May-early July and August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Local

Habitat

Scrub heathland, open broadleaved and coniferous woodland, fens, and coastal sand-dunes.
