General Information

When at rest, this species holds its wings in an arch over its back, resembling a dried leaf.

 

Pupates in a cocoon in a folded leaf.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 14-18mm.
Foodplant(s): Downy Birch (Betula pubescens), Silver Birch (Betula pendula)
Flying: Two generations, April-June and July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Heathland, woodland and scrub.
