General Information

This moth is one of the more distinctive of the Argyresthia species.

There are several named forms:

  • f. aerariella - unicolourous brown,
  • f. maculosa - similar to typical form but lacks purple.
Both sexes come to light.

Wingspan: 10-14mm
Foodplant(s): Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), Apple (Malus domestica)
Flying: One generation, May-July

Orchards, woodland, fens and heathland.
