General Information

This moth is sexually diamorphic with the male being significantly smaller and whiter than the female. It has a diagnostic dark ring with a whitish centre on the forewing.

 

The larvae are entirely aquatic.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Wingspan: m: 16-20 mm, f: 26-28 mm.
Foodplant(s): aquatic plants
Flying: One generation, June-September
National status: Common

Habitat

Wetland areas including gardens.
