General Information

This moth has an orange head with a bronzy forewing and a silver and purple fascia.

 

The larvae form a distinctive mine which starts off with a brownish blotch and then becomes a gallery completely filled with greenish-brown frass.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 4-5 mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.)
Flying: Two generations, May and August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Birch woodland.
