General Information

This is an unmistakable chocolate-brown moth with a diagnostic 'bird's-wing' shape on the forewing.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 16mm.
Foodplant(s): docks (Rumex spp.), Common Sorrel (Rumex acetosa), Knotgrass (Polygonium aviculare)
Flying: One/two generations, May-July and August-September
