The forewings of this species have a greyish or greenish-white ground colour, marbled with green, grey or yellowish marbling. The colours and markings are variable but easy to recognise.

The larvae feed on lichens growing on walls, roofs, rocks and are often associated with old buildings.

Pupates in moss or a crevice.
