General Information

This is one of three Epirrita species which are almost indistinguishable, certainly on markings alone.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 16-20mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.), Alder (Alnus glutinosa), broadleaved trees
Flying: One generation, October-November
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common
