General Information

This is one of three Epirrita species which are almost indistinguishable, certainly on markings alone.

 

This species is the most widespread and common species of the three.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 15-20mm.
Foodplant(s): oaks (Quercus spp.), birches (Betula spp.), elms (Ulmus spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), Aspen (Populus tremula), Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), Hazel (Corylus avellana), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), broadleaved trees
Flying: One generation, early October-November
